Independence Elementary School Science/Technology/Engineering/Math Magnet is part of the LAUSD voluntary Court-ordered integration program and attempts to ameliorate the five harms of racial isolation: Low Academic Achievement, Low Self Esteem, Lack of Access to Postsecondary Opportunities, Interracial Hostility and Intolerance, and Overcrowded Conditions. To that end, students at Independence Elementary School STEM Magnet are provided with an enriched and a rigorous curriculum that they may not otherwise have the opportunity to experience. Ultimately, our goal is for the students to become lifelong learners who question, explore, and improve their immediate and global community.
